What is the Reflecting Pool?The Washington Monument's Reflecting Pool is about 2,029 feet long and 167 feet wide. It is about eighteen inches deep on the sides and about thirty inches deep in the middle. The Reflecting Pool holds approximately 6,750,000 U.S. gallons (25,500,000 L) of water. When you stand at the Lincoln Memorial, and look down at the Reflecting Pool, you see that it reflects an image of the Washington Monument. If you stand at the Washington Monument and look into the Reflecting Pool, you shall notice that the pool reflects an image of the Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln memorial is harder to see and appears blurry, but you can make out the columns of the Lincoln Memorial. Where as the Washington Monument is easier to see in the Reflecting Pool being less blurry and having less detail to reflect among making the structure easier to makeout and see.
